Frequently Asked Questions...

Why did we start Flare?

The Flare team met at Brown University where we realized that group communication was broken. Group messaging, event planning, photo sharing, and group organization required multiple apps and fragmented approaches. We decided to build a better solution so friends and groups could spend less time corralling and more time together.

What is Flare?

Flare is a one-stop shop for every group. Sororities, fraternities, campus clubs, and friend groups use Flare to communicate, make announcements, plan events, take attendance, share photos & videos, consolidate contacts (birthdays & phone numbers), and implement point systems.

What is Flare’s approach to privacy and data security?

Privacy and data security are essential to the Flare experience. All user data is safely secured by Google’s flagship database called Firebase. Flare does not sell or distribute personal data. Flare’s privacy policy states: “Flare App, Inc. does not now, nor will it in the future, sell, rent or lease any of our customer lists and/or names to any third parties.”

Is Flare free? If so, how does Flare make money?

Flare is completely free and fully funded by venture capital firms that believe in our long-term potential. In the future, we plan to launch premium or paid features like peer-to-peer payments and sponsored events. Flare’s current features will always be free.
